By Betty Barber, Imagination Library Coordinator for Perry County
Perry County Friends of the Library is very proud to be the champion of the Imagination Library of Perry County. For 16 years this volunteer organization has raised funds to purchase age-appropriate books for children up to age 5 in Perry County. This is accomplished in conjunction with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and the Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation.
Since 2004 Friends of the Library of Perry County have purchased more than 40,000 books, which were mailed directly to the children’s homes at no cost to their families. Providing an opportunity for our youngest residents to explore books encourages literacy, as well as imagination, problem-solving, empathy, confidence, and laughter. These are all abilities necessary for achieving quality employment as an adult.
The Imagination Library continues to thrive in our county, distributing 300 books each month to 73% of the county’s children under age 5! Thank you for your 16 years of support for this effort. Your participation in this project for our children’s future is genuinely appreciated.
It takes only $12 per year to sponsor one child’s participation in the Imagination Library. Please consider sending a donation of any amount to:
